In exactly two weeks from today, Mark and I will be in the South Pacific! Next Friday (19th) we leave Wisconsin for Colorado, and the following Tuesday we fly out from Denver to LAX and then from LAX all the way to Apia, Samoa. Whew! It will be a long flight, but I am ready! I’ve got 3 books that have been waiting patiently to be read…I haven’t been able to read any for-pleasure books since last summer. Not that I haven’t read any books since last summer, I have – but they all relate to my thesis. Anyways, for vacation I have a Maya Angelou book and a Toni Morrison book that I got during Christmas 2008 that I’ve been saving for this plane ride. And I have a book on Amazon bookmarked that I heard about on NPR, probably 4 months ago, that I’ll either order or try and find in an airport. I always end up buying more books and magazines at the airport. And I think I’ll take a book of poems with me. I’ve always taken a book of poems with me when I travel. There are always those small moments of waiting when traveling that are the perfect length of time to read a poem.
We’ve gotten most of our other things in order before we leave. Mainly it’s just the little things to take care of.
And…today is the birthday of Howlin’ Wolf, a legendary blues musician and singer. Check out this remembrance to Chester ‘Howlin’ Wolf’ Burnett performing Smokestack Lightning live in England 1964: http://www.fark.com/cgi/vidplayer.pl?IDLink=4439941.
